ALTMOOR JÄGER LEAD - A hands-free, over-the-shoulder, German jaeger-style dog lead is extremely important for the hunter, jogger, or anyone who likes the idea of a hands-free lead. With a little research, you can probably locate finely-crafted German-made leather Jäger (hunter) leads or lesser quality knock-offs made over here. Most often, they all are annoyingly long, causing the dog's legs to get entangled. With those made out of leather, one or two chomps, and the lead is wrecked and your dog is free or the lead is ruined. With those made of nylon webbing, a strong pull by your dog will burn your hand. In our experience, the hardware on even the finest such leads from Germany rusts with one day on the salt marsh. Our version is made of highest quality nylon rope. The length adjusts quickly to accommodate a wide range of dog and handler height combinations, as well as summer to winter clothing differences. By making length adjustments, the lead can easily be converted from a jaeger lead to a long utility/obedience lead, or to a tree-tie (for attended use only). The ends are reversible, allowing it to be used as a British-style slip lead - especially useful if you encounter a dog which has slipped its collar. The hardware is marine grade bronze or brass, so that they'll last for the tidal water duck and goose hunter. The snap on the dog's end is a Loc-Jaw quick release. We offer this lead in U.S. mil-spec 6/6 double-braid ½" nylon, 8,500 lb. tensile strength, in Hunter Green - soft and easy on the hands, but incredibly strong. This rope retails for $1.19 per foot; it's vastly different from the 50¢ per foot poly horse rope that most manufacturers are using today. Handcrafted in the Jersey Pine Barrens, these leads are heavy duty, not unattractive, and supremely functional. We carry these in two different lengths to accommodate different builds. Details
LEATHER JÄGER LEAD - We've finally found a moderately priced leather jaeger lead that has the features we want. It's adjustable in length, is 8 feet long, and has non-rusting brass hardware, a swivel bolt snap on each end, and a sliding ring and attached D-ring. It's made of chestnut-colored leather and is fully-stitched with finished edges. You can use this versatile lead as a hands-free, over-the-shoulder lead, short snap lead, long obedience/training lead, slip lead, or a temporary tie-out (for attended use only.) Made in the USA. ALTMOOR TRAINING LEAD - We've trained dogs for decades and always used 8' latigo leather leads for yard work and general obedience. This length lead allows the trainer to swing the hand loop end in a clockwise circular fashion ahead of the dog to prevent surging while heeling and permits the use of the hand-loop end to administer corrective swats when called for. It also gives the handler a reasonable distance to move away from the dog for the various remain-in-place commands, such as the sit-stay, whoa, and down positions. Unfortunately, we've been unable to find any source of training leads over six feet in recent years. So, we now offer an Altmoor version. This lead has a Loc-Jaw snap on the dog's end, and has no metal on the hand-loop end. They are about 8', and made of attractive and easy-on-the-hands green nylon rope (not to be confused with the cheap poly-pro rope used on so many of today's rope leads). These leads are a little more expensive than most other training leads you'll find on the market, but once you see the quality of the lead material and snap, we're sure you'll appreciate the difference between these and the run-of-the-mill too-short leads that you'll find elsewhere. Color varies from hunter green to kelly green (no choice available). Details
LEATHER TRAINING LEAD, 6' - This is just a simple training lead made of 3/4" leather, six feet in length. It's the type most commonly seen used for dog-walking and basic obedience training, with a solid brass bolt snap. Details
BRITISH SLIP LEAD - These British-style slip leads are collar and leash combined: adjustable neck-opening with a leather stop at one end and a hand loop at the the other. Made of soft rope, with brass hardware and stitched leather appointments, available in red, green, or blue. Details
LEATHER SLIP LEADS - Leather collar and leash all in one nice-looking slip lead. They have an adjustable neck-opening
with a leather stop to keep the opening small enough not to slip over your dog's head when slack, as well as a hand loop at your end. Fully stitched chestnut-colored leather with finished edges and non-rusting brass hardware. Available in 4' long rolled or 5/8" flat leather, also 4' long. Made in the USA. Details
COTTON TRAINING LEAD, 30' - For intermediate obedience work, there's nothing that does things quite as well as cotton (try nylon web, and you'll see what we mean). This 30' lead is 5/8" wide.
TRACKING SLIP LEADS - Handlers of versatile dogs use these for releasing their dogs on free tracks of both live game and obedience exercises involving dead game retrieves. Some folks also use them for releasing a dog for water work when they're leaving the ID collar on. Retriever trainers use them during steadiness training - to give the dog a smooth release with no distraction. When we go to dog tests and training sessions, we see handlers using slip leads that are way too long, too short, or made of materials that don't slip through the collar ring easily. We prefer to use the finest quality flat tubular nylon webbing, 11/16" in width, cut to nine foot lengths. Double a short length of one end with an overhand knot, and you now have a slip lead. The problem is, it's often very difficult to find this stuff. We carry it in bright colors so it'll be easy to find if you leave it on the ground. Prices are per each 9' length, ends are heat-cut.
CHECK CORD - When was the last time you were working your dog, put down your favorite (or only) check cord, and then couldn't find it again? This orange check cord from TBI was specifically designed with the dog trainer in mind. The 3/8" diameter lariat-type cord is orange with a trace of black. A heavy duty solid brass swivel snap is attached with a bowline knot. This check cord is stiff enough that it won't get tangled in brush, comes in two lenghts for every training purpose, and remains visible in almost any cover. Available in 30' or 50' lengths. Details
LEATHER TRACKING LEASH - This one-piece, flat leather tracking leash is 33 feet (10 meters) long and 3/8" wide. The only stitching used is in the snap and hand loops. The bolt swivel snap can be used with most tracking collars and it swivels easily to prevent the line from twisting.
